Last night about 23:30, I heard the Last Post and then what I assume is First Post (?!) at 06:30 this morning. So, it appears we are not on the most patriotic campsite in Italy, but we are next door to the Commando barracks ๐ We still enjoy our rousing twice daily Italian anthems though ๐ฎ๐น
Today we were supposed to go to Pisa, originally we were going to drive but the fuel station attendant strike caused a replan. A more detailed look at the logistics of shuttle bus / public bus / train time tables and walking distance in between then the quick 1 hour train journey was turning into a 2.5 hour each way journey, if we made all the connections. We have been told by several people there is not a great deal more to see in Pisa than the Leaning Tower.

So, as much as it may have been great blog material to get some amusing pictures of us holding up the tower, when faced with a long day of travel for a couple of photos we decided we would rather have another day wandering around Florence. We have some other places to visit on that coast and we plan to return to Italy on our next big trip so it will be on the list for that. Tourist tick list fail, touring enjoyment factor win ๐

So, we enjoyed a relaxing day wandering the streets, shops and sights of Florence with no sightseeing agenda. I got to hit some Italian clothes shops, so nice to have an alternative to the chain stores. We had a lovely lunch in Eataly with its amazing delicatessen recommended by Simonetta (our pasta teacher) in Sardinia. We rubbed the boars snout, to ensure we will be back to Florence one day. We even got to see some local colour with a parade of local men marching to drumbeats in full tights and hose, thatโs dedication in January.
