The plan for this morning was to visit the Montenvers train which visits the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) glacier at 1913m on the Mont Blanc Massif. The forecast was for rain and cloud all day today and so some of the things we planned which needed good visibility were out.
We chose which of the near vertical dog walk options we would take 😮 this morning up Mont Blanc behind us. Then donned hiking boots for the first time in weeks and headed off to tourist information to check on walking options etc when we got there with the dogs.

Unfortunately, the tourist information office informed us that the train was closed today for maintenance. There were a couple of other options for cable cars etc and 1.5 hour each way walks from there such as the Mont Blanc Lac (lake). However, by now the cloud level was only just above the town and it was raining. Discussion over a coffee concluded that shopping (all of our favourite outdoor brands have shops here) and lunch might be a better option.

As per advice at the tourist information office, we have however pre booked our tickets for the morning for the Aiguille du Midi cable car for tomorrow when there is forecast a bright clear day with great visibility. That will take us up to an altitude of 3777m!

So we found a wonderfully quirky restaurant in town and had a lovely lunch. Back to the van from French lessons, blog writing and planning for our next stops.
